    • This is possibly a book with limited appeal if you've never heard of Cleveland's West Side Market and if it does not have some special association to you… yet if you like just reading about new things and learning about different cultures, this still could be a thing to consider.Cleveland's West Side Market opened for business in 1912, is one of the oldest city-owned retail markets in the USA (there are not that many left either) and is said to be a nationally-significant architectural treasur [...]

    • Quite simply this book is a love letter to a unique culture and architectural wonder. The research into this remarkable community is impeccable. The photographs are laid out beautifully. The personal stories are fun and poignant. One of the foundations of our country is small business. Within the cavernous walls of the West Side Market are stories of probably 1,000's of family owned small businesses. Stories of business owners brave enough to have their competitors just 6 feet across the aisle, [...]

    • If you're a foodie like me, then the West Side Market is a cathedral to epicureans like us. It's my good fortune to live in the town where it continues to draw the faithful after just over 100 years. The West Side Market is open four days a week and if you come to visit me, I'll take you there and let you just experience the hum of humanity and the amazing array of food. The authors of this nearly coffee table size book take you from starting points and plans for the Market including delays, fret [...]

    • Those who have lived in any part of Cleveland, Ohio understand why this book is appealing. Much like Pike Place in Seattle or The Grove in LA, West Side Market is an institution for generations of chefs, householders and foodies. Here you'll find the stories of immigrants struggling with new languages as they sell their freshly butchered meats, harvested vegetables, special ethnic foods, and lovingly made breads and pastries. Their children and grandchildren often are the modern proprietors of t [...]

    • I like all the personal behind-the-scenes stories in Chapter 2 and all the memories at the bottom of pages throughout most of the book. Might take me awhile to finish this book, though I am skimming more than anything else. (it's a library book).I just returned it. Although the behind-the-scenes stories were interesting, I had no desire to finish the book, so I returned it.

    • Okay, I'm a little biased because I typeset this book, but it's a great read. Everything you ever want to know about the Market is in this book. Lots and lots of great photos, too.
